OPENING: Food Pantry Director

Join us in purposeful and energetic work as we offer hope through grapes and granola bars, ensuring our neighbors have enough food to thrive!

The St. John Food Pantry is made up of a large team of faithful, hardworking volunteers deeply committed to addressing hunger in the greater Joliet and Plainfield area. Over the years, our pantry has become a relied-upon resource in the community, in no small part due to amazing leadership and dedicated effort within our volunteer family.

In all our efforts, we believe God is abundant and calls us to share the gifts we receive, and that all human beings are equals, worthy of dignity and opportunity. The voices of our neighbors inform how we operate, our volunteers take on leadership opportunities, and we are constantly seeking ways to improve our efforts and reach more people.

We are looking for a passionate director to manage our operations, coordinate our volunteers, and lead our food pantry into new opportunities to serve our neighbors with excitement and optimism.  We pride ourselves on being a supportive and empowering work environment and see the food pantry as a vital part of our ministry at St. John.

Here's how our former director describes her experience:

"When I first walked into St John in May of 2019, I planned to use my experience as a volunteer at Northern Illinois Food Bank to help out for a few weeks to serve our community during the pandemic, but I never could have imagined over 4 years later that I would be here, serving in this role that I love so much! I’m so proud of the things that we have accomplished from growing our capacity to serve 500 families each week, enhancing our Direct Connect program to include 12 local retailers, serving over 1 million pounds of food annually, completely overhauling the food pantry space with brand new equipment, launching OrderAhead, building a broad base of volunteers from the community, rebuilding a strong relationship with Northern Illinois Food Bank, launching the Fresh Rescue delivery program, and building trust with donors to invest in our pantry. I will miss the wonderful neighbors, volunteers, and staff members at the pantry, but know that the next leader for the pantry will bring new ideas, a new perspective, connections to the community, and volunteers to the pantry! I’m very excited to see what they accomplish!" - Heather Hintorn
